Travel in style on our steam hauled train to enjoy a wonderful day out travelling over a circular route through the heart of England passing Oxford the city of dreaming spires, toward Reading where we join the main line through Basingstoke to Salisbury, one of England’s most historic and vibrant towns. Situated in beautiful Wiltshire and famous for its visitor attractions.
Salisbury – Known as ‘the city in the countryside’, this pretty cathedral city has welcomed visitors since 1227 and is surrounded by a landscape so quintessentially English it’s almost too good to be true and we have around three hours to discover it’s unique charms. Dating back to the 13th century it is home to one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country with its spire being the tallest in Britain. The library is home to the Magna Carta and the streets contain many historic medieval timbered buildings and at Cathedral Close you can visit the Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum or head out to Old Sarum on the edge of the city, a massive iron age hill fort where you can see the ruins of a castle, cathedral and royal palace.
Our train returns in the late afternoon over a different route through Westbury and beside the River Avon and onward to Chippenham and Swindon. The train is steam hauled from throughout by one of our immaculately restored pool of engines including: the world famous LMS Royal Scot Class, No.46100 ‘Royal Scot’ – West Country Class, No. 34046 ‘Braunton’ – Britannia Pacific Class, No 70000 ‘Britannia’ – LNER A4 Pacific No 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’
