DEPARTING FROM

  • Crewe

Following the sell-out success of our previous three tours you can now enjoy another train specifically run to measure the performance of our locomotives with haulage by GWR 6024 ‘King Edward 1’ on its first public main line run following overhaul and offers spectacular views of the Cumbrian mountains and high Pennines as we climb over the Lakeland fells to the historic border city of Carlisle for an afternoon sightseeing break.

We travel along the West Coast Main Line to Carlisle through Preston and the county town of Lancaster with our locomotive working hard to climb the severe 1 in 75 gradients of Grayrigg and Shap Summit and splendid views over the Cumbrian Fells before we descend to Penrith, and head for Carlisle. There will be around two hours available to explore this ancient border city with its castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum, and shopping centre.

Our return is again steam hauled retracing the outward journey over Shap Summit from Carlisle back to Crewe.

Mobility: This tour is not suitable for guests requiring the use of a wheelchair or with serious mobility issues.
