Travel in style on our steam hauled train to enjoy a wonderful day out to Stratford-upon-Avon, one of England’s most historic and vibrant towns. Situated in the heart of the Midlands on the River Avon Stratford is today most famous as the home of Elizabethan playwright William Shakespeare whose birthplace is a “must see”, as is Anne Hathaway’s cottage. The train is diesel hauled by a heritage locomotive to Crewe where one of our famous steam locomotives takes over for a fast run down the West Coast main line through Stafford and Walsall and then through the beautiful Warwickshire countryside for a lunchtime arrival at historic Stratford-upon-Avon.
Dating from Tudor times, Stratford still looks like a small half-timbered market town and there are many fantastic areas to explore, all within easy walking distance of the station which is why visitors flock back year after year. From quaint side streets with unique curio shops to open parkland along the river, there is something for everyone. Perhaps enjoy one of the numerous tea rooms to rest those weary feet and why not visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford Butterfly Farm or take an open top bus tour.
The train is steam hauled from Crewe by one of our immaculately restored pool of engines including: the world famous LMS Royal Scot Class, No.46100 ‘Royal Scot’ – West Country Class, No. 34046 ‘Braunton’ – Britannia Pacific Class, No 70000 ‘Britannia’ – LNER A4 Pacific No 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’
