Our fabulous steam hauled train offers a full day tour through the beautiful Cotswolds and a visit to historic Worcester for an afternoon break. Travelling outward through Oxford and Evesham, with a return through the Golden Valley and the challenging climb of Sapperton bank.
We take the Great Western main line to Didcot and through Oxford, the city of dreaming spires and join the Cotswold line travelling along an area of outstanding Natural Beauty characterised by attractive small towns and villages built of Cotswold stone. which is a delight to behold. We face the five-mile climb of Honeybourne bank, graded at 1 in 100 then onward through Evesham to Worcester for a break of around three hours.
The city of Worcester stands on the River Severn and is best known for its magnificent ornate cathedral but also famous for the world-renowned porcelain, the home of composer Edward Elgar and the piquant Worcestershire sauce. Perhaps visit the historic Guildhall and Tudor House Museum or take a stroll beside the beautiful river. Returning in the late afternoon we take the GWR main line through Cheltenham Spa before the scenic Golden Valley route past picturesque Stroud and beside the river Frome. Next is the long twisting climb to Sapperton tunnel as our engine works hard up the severe gradient. We then descend through Kemble to Swindon and travel through the Vale of the White Horse to Didcot.
The train is steam hauled from West London by one of our immaculately restored pool of engines including: the world famous LMS Royal Scot Class, No.46100 ‘Royal Scot’ – West Country Class, No. 34046 ‘Braunton’ – Britannia Pacific Class, No 70000 ‘Britannia’.
